Urban Rigger – the future is floating
Wednesday 9th October 16:00-17:30
Format: Informal reception with opening speeches and on-site visit to the rigger
URBAN RIGGER is an innovative and affordable, floating and sustainable property with 12-24 apartments that can be located anywhere with water access. URBAN RIGGER is intended for students but can also be used for many other purposes like hotel or shared offices.
The world-renowned architect Bjarke Ingels, the founder of BIG Architects, has designed the Urban Rigger.
By stacking shipping containers in opposite triangles, BIG Architects has managed to create cool and modern studio apartments which frame a green courtyard and a roof top terrace. Each apartment is equipped with own kitchen and bathroom giving maximum quality of life to the residents.
The hull has a dedicated storage room for each resident, a shared kitchen with lounge area, and a fully automated laundry.
An URBAN RIGGER has a very low CO2 emission as heating is derived from solar panels that powers a Danfoss heating pump that produces heat from the surrounding waters.
